Please Note
Safe Ministry training can contain content that may cause distress. It includes discussion of topics such as child abuse, family and domestic violence, abuse of power and bullying.
Please contact the Safe Ministry Team (PSU) if this training may cause concern.
Sydney Anglican Diocese Training
This training has been written for leaders serving in Anglican churches in the Sydney Diocese. It is important to note that any reference to policies, ordinances, codes of conduct and certain leadership roles as well as government legislation and legal requirements are specific to these Anglican churches.
Leaders from other churches may also benefit from, and are welcome to undertake this training. While much of the information and guidelines contained in the courses will be relevant in other churches, leaders who are not in a Sydney Anglican church should ensure they identify their own church/denomination’s applicable policies, codes and leadership roles as well as specific state laws at the relevant points in the training.

Which Course Should I do?
See our Training Information page for a description of each course and which one is relevant for your situation, particularly if you are a younger leader or if your safe ministry accreditation has expired.

How does online training work?
Online training consists of self-paced topics and a live webinar (seminar via the web). To complete your online course you require a computer or other internet-connected device (e.g: a laptop or a tablet).
This training format is a convenient way to complete safe ministry training, but it may not suit everyone and it is not instant.
If you do not complete the whole course (self-paced topics, the live webinar and the post-webinar topic) within your enrolment period, you will need to re-enrol and re-start your training.
Click on the headings below to understand the difference between your Course enrolment period and Training expiry date.
Course Enrolment Period
Your course enrolment period is the length of time you have access to your online course. This date is displayed in your account under Enrolment Expiry.
Your course enrolment period does not affect your safe ministry accreditation period, it only indicates when access to your online course will cease.
Training Expiry Date
Your training expiry date is when your safe ministry accreditation is no longer valid. This will be 3yrs from the date you last attended training, i.e., 3yrs from the date on your certificate (these details can also be found on My Dashboard in your safe ministry account).
In accordance with the Safe Ministry to Children Ordinance 2020, safe ministry training must be completed prior to a person’s training expiry date.
For more information see our Knowledge Base.
Please refer to the information below to understand how the online training process works.
Create An Account
Click the ‘Create account’ link from the menu at the top of this page to set up your online training account – or log in if you already have an account.
Note: The email address used to create your account must be unique to that account. Duplicate addresses cannot be used.
Enrol In Your Course
Login to your account, then enrol and pay for the course of your choice.
Self Paced Content
Complete the self-paced online content for your chosen course, then register for a webinar (see current dates below).
Webinar & Final Topic
Live webinars are held on a number of days each month.
After completing the webinar, you will be emailed instructions to access the final topic of your online course and complete your training.
Useful Information
Create an account and log in
Once you have created your account and logged in, enrol and pay for your course. You can then go to the ‘My Dashboard‘ page which contains links to your enrolled course(s) and other helpful information about your training.
You have a six month enrolment period in which you can access your course to complete all the self-paced topics, the live webinar and the post-webinar topic.
If you do not complete your course within that time, you will need to re-enrol and start your training again.
Self Paced
The self-paced topics allow you to complete most of your training at your own pace and in your own time.
You will also need to allow time in your 6 month enrolment period to attend a live webinar and one final topic.
Note: If you are completing the Refresher course, ensure you complete all the components of the course prior to your safe ministry training expiry date. For more information about training expiry see our Knowledge Base.
Return any time
You can come and go from the self-paced content as you wish, but we recommend you complete the self-paced topics within 2-3 weeks.
If you return to continue the course, first log in and then access your course from the ‘My Dashboard‘ page.
Time
Each topic will vary in the time it will take – but if you are already familiar with some of the material, you may find you move through some parts of the course in a shorter time.
Live Webinar
You can book into a webinar after completing the self-paced content – upcoming webinar dates are listed below.
NOTE: It may be 2 weeks in busy periods to find an available webinar date.
You do not need any special equipment like a microphone or webcam to participate in the webinar, but do not use a smartphone for the webinar – the small screen makes it impossible to participate as required for this component of the training.
Webinar Dates
A webinar is a seminar via the web. This is a live and interactive component of your online course, therefore numbers are limited in each session.
For your planning, the upcoming webinar dates are listed below. You will be able to register for a webinar after you have completed the self-paced topics in your online Essentials or Refresher course, so don’t delay in beginning your course after you enrol.
We recommend you complete the self-paced topics within 2-3 weeks to make your training more meaningful.
